The Web Editor will manage and edit the SMU website and webpages, by taking editorial responsibility for the design, content, quality and style of the website and certain sections of the intranet, in accordance with the capabilities of the current system and tools available. The incumbent reports to the Manager: Marketing and will furthermore be responsible for the development and execution of the key performance areas listed below:


Minimum requirements:
  • A relevant M+3 qualification with Multimedia or Web Design courses.
  • At least 3 years` experience working as a Webpage Designer and Webpage Editor
    • Experience in a health sciences environment would be an advantage.

  • Web development
    • Develop the website content.
    • Assess content for accuracy and ensure that it complies with copyright and privacy regulations.
    • Edit the copy to make it easy to read on a website page or convert longer content to a format that visitors can download.
    • Meet the needs of visitors who view websites on tablet computers or smartphones.
      • Modify content so that it is easy to view on smaller screens
    • Decide on the design aspects of the website, such as how to use graphics, links and forms.
    • Make sure the text and graphic elements mesh together as a cohesive, eye-catching work.
    • Contribute towards the development of custom programs to extend the functionality of the website.
    • Maintain or update the website once it is completed by adding new content, illustrations or features.
  • Website administration
    • Make sure that the documents look good in text-based browser as well as in graphic browsers.
    • Responsible for the information base of the SMU.
    • Maintain the site maps.
    • Maintain the web site procedures.
    • Write entries for the glossary.
  • Internal/external liaison
    • Coordinate other people, such as designers and writers, to help maintain the website.
    • Proactive liaison with contributors to assess whether material needs to be updated and to encourage contributors to supply new content to keep the website fresh for returning visitors.
    • Talk to writers, designers, system administrators and other IT staff to make sure the website will fulfill its purpose
    Monitoring/Evaluation
    • Ensure that web content meets the needs and interests of stakeholders.
    • Monitor visitor behavior by reviewing website statistics.
    • Check page popularity by the number of visitors and remove content that has low levels of interest.
    • Encourage feedback by providing the means for visitors to leave comments.

WEB MASTER (1 Post)

The Web Master is an important strategic role player at SMU, who contributes to satisfaction levels among prospective students, current students, employees, suppliers and visitors in that s/he enhances the online experience of these stakeholders, by creating valuable content, simplifying navigation and ensuring fast, secure access and optimal availability for users on the SMU website. The incumbent reports to the Manager: Infrastructure Support Services and will furthermore be responsible for the development and execution of the key performance areas listed below:


Minimum requirements:
  • M+3 qualification in Computer Science
    • Knowledge of programming languages, operating systems and Internet applications;
    • Familiar with web design and development tools and understand the requirements of standards bodies such as the World Wide Web Association.
  • Web coding experience, including advanced HTML and intermediate CSS and PHP.
  • At least 3 years` experience working as a Web Master.
  • A valid driver`s license.

    • Address issues with the SMU hosting company or email service provider;

  • Troubleshoot
    • This involves areas including content, links, order flows, registration flows and transaction logs.
    • Make corrections directly or delegate the task to other members of the IT department.
  • Review statistics and monitor analytics
    • Provides analysis of the website`s business health and creates conversion paths so that the marketing team can monitor their efforts.
  • Maintain responsive design
    • Stay up to date on the web`s latest technologies.
    • Make sure the site and its products are always mobile-friendly and multi-platform ready.
  • Plan for future changes to the website
    • Research emerging technologies and services that may enhance the website experience and plan future enhancements to the site.
    • Stay current with software and hardware that can improve the success of the SMU website.

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for providing ICT Help Desk Administrator services to the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) Community. He /She will ensure that the related administration and documentation services are provided and will further liaise with ICT staff and SMU community with regard to first line ICT services offering and support. The incumbent reports to the ICT Support Services Manager and will furthermore meet the requirements and be responsible for the key performance areas listed below:


Minimum requirements:
  • An M+3 qualification in a relevant ICT diploma or ICT certificate, N+ and A+.
  • Minimum 1- 2 years` experience in general ICT industry,
  • Specializing in ICT administration,
  • Troubleshooting skills and good communication skills,
  • High level writing and analytical skills and language proficiency in English.
  • Proven experience in a Customer Care environment.

  • Schedules and prioritizes support calls for attention by the most appropriate support technician.
  • Tracks the status of all outstanding calls.
  • Provides telephone support as far as possible before escalating the problem to a qualified support technician.
  • Contacts users to work towards resolving problems.
  • Acts on the primary interface between the user community and the support staff.
  • Escalate problem situations as appropriate
  • Prepares and tracks job cards
  • Closes and documents all incidents in a timely fashion
  • Measures and monitors user satisfaction indicators and highlights any issues of concern
  • Accumulates, processes and presents IT statistical reports on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Capturing all IT asset into the database and dispatching the IT equipment to the user as per written request.

    • Provide user support for the initial training on equipment and software; o Trouble shoot all network/hardware/software and e-mail problems; o Identify common problem areas experienced to recommend corrective action; o Work with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems (Desktop computing equipment and software);
    • Ensure desktop computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems; o Resolve problems by communicating with the user by telephone or visiting the user;
    • Report shortfalls in the parts inventory to Line manager;
    • Document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal; o Forward faulty computers to the workshop;
    • Report any problems that cannot be resolved to Desktop Support Administrator;
    • Communicate project status to the helpdesk; and o Ensure legitimate distribution/ installation of software.
  • Maintenance of hardware installation, software and networking equipment in the office and laboratory environment;
  • Assist with installation and repairs of systems in student labs, and any other areas that require attention and group work;
  • Implement new technology and conduct roll-outs of new software as indicated by the Line manager; and
  • Monitor adherence to university end user policies and standards.

The incumbent will be responsible for overall enterprise server administration in the University: He/She will report to the Network Manager, must meet the following requirements and be responsible for the following key performance areas:


REQUIREMENTS:
  • A three(3) year National Diploma, BSc Computer Science Degree, or equivalent certification;
  • At least 3-5 years` experience in enterprise server management;
  • Knowledge of university policies, procedures and leading best practices, and interpreting and applying these guidelines correctly in various situations;

DUTIES:
  • Install, configure and maintain servers, server operating systems, networked data storage, network application software and data communications devices;
  • Implement, maintain, and update security measures to ensure the integrity of institutional data resources and prevent unauthorized access to network systems;
  • Implement disaster recovery systems and develop procedures to ensure reliability of institutional data resources and recovery in the event of a catastrophic event;
  • Diagnose and resolve problems and concerns associated with implemented information systems, network software applications and peripheral devices reported by academic and administrative users;
  • Coordinate with college users to evaluate information system requirements and develop hardware/software solutions to provide required services;
  • Collaborate with the department staff to analyse, design, research equipment options and develop technical specifications for network topologies and configurations;
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of information system servers, data storage devices, and installed software; ensure that software license agreements are current and accurate in accordance with college policy;
  • Advise the Director of Information Technology of technical issues and consult with vendor support agencies to resolve problems and determine equipment requirements;
  • Acquire and maintain the requisite technical skills to perform systems management and network operations activities in support of institutional data processing and network communications;
  • Develop and maintain operational, procedural and informational documentation for enterprise information systems, implemented security measures and disaster recovery procedures;
  • Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision.

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for developing and presenting courses in Biostatistics, offer consultation services to postgraduate students and staff regarding bio-statistical aspects of their research projects, lead and serve in quantitative research projects and provide general support in organising and presenting Research Development workshops.


Requirements:
PROFESSOR
  • A Doctoral degree in Statistics with proven experience in Biostatistics;
  • At least eight (8) to ten (10) years of teaching in Statistics/Biostatistics;
  • Evidence of successful curriculum development and academic management;
  • Experience in managing research programmes, postgraduate student supervision and scientific publications;
    • Proven research record of using quantitative methods;
    • Skills in using data analysis software such as SPSS, SAS, etc.
  • Experience in development and reviewing of research proposals; and
  • Excellent computer skills.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR:

  • Policy and procedure development

  • Operations management of University Advancement Committee (UAC)
    • Render committee and administrative services to the UAC;
    • Develop systems and processes;
    • Stakeholder consultations;
    • Compile status reports on fundraising projects;
    • New concept proposals for consideration by UAC;
    • Ensure an effective governance system, in order to lead SMU`s fundraising efforts;
    • Facilitate the prioritization of strategic and school priority projects via pre-UAC meetings with Deans, DVC`s and the VC;
    • Foster close working relationships with the Research Office and the annual SMU Planning process.
  • Proposal and report submission management
    • Support project leaders by issuing briefs and reminders for proposal development, when needed;
    • Edit and write, if necessary, funding proposals emanating from the Office of the Vice Chancellor and Schools and oversee their completion.

    • Develop strategic partnerships on fundraising projects with school departments and non-academic departments.
    • Fosters co-operation from Executive management.
    • Maintains and enhance existing partnerships while pursuing and cultivating new long term donor relationships.

The Director: Internal Audit and Risk Management will provide strategic direction and leadership in the management of the Internal Audit and Risk Management functions, in order to provide Senior management, Council and the Audit Committee with the assurance that the systems of Internal Audit are adequate and effective, that Risk Management processes are working as intended and that sound governance processes are in place. Further responsibilities include people management, budget, asset and financial management and health and safety management. The incumbent reports to the Vice-Chancellor and will furthermore be responsible for the development and execution of the key performance areas listed below:

  • Strategy development and execution
    • Manage the development, implementation and review of SMU`s Internal Audit and Risk Management Strategies.

    • Facilitate strategic risk assessments;
    • Development of the SMU Risk Management Register and Mitigating Measures in accordance with University policy and after consultation with stakeholders and ensure the regular updating thereof;
    • Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of Mitigating Measures;
    • Report regularly on the identified institutional risks to the relevant authorities.

    • Must be registered with the Institute of Internal Auditors of South Africa.
    • At least 5 years working experience within an audit firm, with two years of management experience in Internal Audit and/or Risk Management.
    • Understanding of the standards of Internal Audit as prescribed by the IIA.
    • A valid driver`s license.

The purpose of the job of academic coordinator / head of unit is to provide academic leadership and organizational management to the discipline. The incumbent will report to the Head of Department: Family Medicine & PHC. The incumbent will be appointed permanently on a substantive position as either a Senior Lecturer or an Associate Professor and a 3-year term appointment as a Head of Unit. The incumbent must meet the requirements and be responsible for the key performance areas listed below:


JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • A Ph. D in Emergency Medical Care or its equivalent;
  • At least five (5) years` experience in the discipline of Emergency Medical Care and Rescue;
  • Experience in teaching and scholarly activities at a senior level at tertiary institutions;
  • Evidence of extensive supervision of post-graduate students at both Masters and Doctoral level;
  • Evidence of extensive publication in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Well estimated leader and manager of a higher education unit;
